The song was initially inspired by the first presidential debate of 2024. This year, it’s finally clear to me that the political system has changed from being “what we can do for the people” to “look at all the bad things the opposition has done.” Realizing the severity and depth of this dynamic triggered within me a desire to say something about it. In proceeding to write out what I was feeling, the message evolved, as it usually does from its genesis. In working out the song, I was reminded that the political divide is only the symptom of the real issue; the true divide.
