About My Song “The Divide’s A Lie”
This article is about my song “The Divide’s A Lie.” Listen to that song here.
The song was initially inspired by the first presidential debate of 2024. This year, it’s finally clear to me that the political system has changed from being “what we can do for the people” to “look at all the bad things the opposition has done.” Realizing the severity and depth of this dynamic triggered within me a desire to say something about it. In proceeding to write out what I was feeling, the message evolved, as it usually does from its genesis. In working out the song, I was reminded that the political divide is only the symptom of the real issue; the true divide. This article and explanation of the song’s message will uncover what that true divide is.
A Contagious Separation
We believe ourselves to be separate. Separate from everything. Separate from each other. Separate from our government. Separate from other nations; other religions, other races. Separate from other generations, the opposite gender, and from other walks of life. The universal truth is that all separation is an illusion; all of which stems from the greatest separation of all: the (falsely yet popularly believed) separation of the heart and the mind.
Over the last century, the major population of humanity has leaned into the mind and away from the heart. This is virtually solely due to technological progress. For most of recorded history, we had a healthy balance of forward movement via both art (heart) and science (mind.) In the last few decades, we’ve taken leaps and bounds in technology, which I believe has given us a false sense of superiority. This has transformed into a collective belief that we have fully conquered and can now (or soon will be able to) control nature and all things Earthly and eventually beyond. It’s great that we are learning how to manipulate energy and manifest what we desire, collectively and individually, but it’s seeming that this is coming at a cost to our integrity and actual humanity. With these exponential leaps in technology, there have not been concurrent leaps in art or the supernatural, at least in the mainstream. This imbalance of art and science is part of the same divide.
The separation between the heart and the mind causes us to believe things that aren’t true.
Collectively ingrained beliefs like the following are symptoms of a society that favors the mind over the heart.
- Lack: Believing there isn’t enough to go around, which leads to fear and blame, which leads to war and us vs. them mentalities.
- Insignificance: Believing that our individual lives mean nothing, which leads to depression and inaction.
- Atheism: The belief that there is no higher power and that science and technology are the only valid explanations/solutions for anything, which leads to dismissal and irreverence of the supernatural.
- Nihilism: Believing that nothing matters, which leads to indifference and complacency, which leads to cultural and societal stagnation and decay.
The mind is meant to reason. The heart is meant to know.
The heart knows that there is enough; that there is purpose and that there is a higher force; a constant place of universal love enveloping all that is. The mind needs constant proof and reassurance of such. Humans and all lifeforms with a biological heart or heart-like energy center are meant to lead with the heart and use the mind to support the configuration and manifestation of what the heart already decided upon. Right now, on Earth, we’re leading exclusively with the mind and the heart has been all but excommunicated. The mind is calling all the shots from start to finish.
These days, heart centered living is seen as weak and childish, while having a strong mind that can dominate any person or situation is deemed strong and successful. But the mind (sometimes operating as the ego) can lose sight of reality very easily and go off on wild goose chases in the name of proof and soothing. Those tangents of the mind manifest as aggression, domination, division, and defense or addiction, anxiety, indulgence, and willful ignorance. (All of which are prevalent in today’s societal and global dynamic.)
The Ruling Class
This divide has been widened and perpetuated by those in power, which changes with the ages. Those in power right now are those of the technocracy: the billionaires who build the apps and devices we give the majority, if not all, of our attention to. In the past, the ruling class evolved in presentations such as pharos, emperors, medieval knights, renaissance kings, colonial revolutionaries and titans of industry. Today, the ruling class is the tech giants, aka the technocracy. The difference between today’s ruling class and the past? There’s no trace of heart, religion, spirit, morality or culture – it’s all cold, hard silicon which turns into cold, hard cash. At least the ruling class of the past had both heart and mind. They may have slaughtered thousands and bolstered class or slavery systems, but, for the most part, they incorporated their deities and the supernatural in their every day lives and rulings. (Which doesn’t make their crimes against humanity okay, it just proves that they still knew there was something greater than this Earthly plane.)
Back To The Music
Bringing it back to the song… there is more division than ever in our societies, from the interpersonal to the international. We are fearful of change, difference and the unknown. We don’t know who to trust and because of that, we are always cranking up “intelligence” to try and get one step ahead of our enemies or one step ahead of nature. Why? So that we have (or at least have the perception of) total control.
The mind needs control. It needs constant assurance that things are okay and that we are safe. The heart does not need anything. The heart exists and beats with the gentle and effortless knowing of all that is. The heart is a divine organ that connects us to all life, animate and inanimate, on this Earth and in our Universe. If we would just remember this; if we would just tap into the heart a little bit more each day, we could slide back to heart-center and avoid the cliff we are headed towards.
Breakdown of “The Divide’s A Lie” Lyrics
It could be said that the chorus is written from the perspective of God/source/prophets/oversoul, etc:
The divide’s a lie (humans aren’t separate from nature and the heart isn’t separate from the mind)
Told you a thousand times (all the messages that carried true nature of humanity and the universe has been delivered to us.)
Do I really have to go and tell you again? (the pressure is on it’s relatively now or never)
Only separation is in your head (you create the divide with your mind, it’s an illusion)Ain’t no line (there is no real division or separation anywhere in this universe)
Oh we must combine (we must reunite the heart and mind so that we may reunite humanity)
Do I really have to say it in a thousand ways? (how do you not understand this yet?)
Only separation is the one you make (again, you are not separate from the energy that creates worlds you are that energy.)
And that is all. Now check out the song and make your own decisions on how you live your life. Will you uphold the perceived division? Or will you do your best to break down the man-made barriers to a more peaceful, more just and harmonious Earth?
