Album Background
The Human Link is my first ever album and it is made up of some of the very first songs I wrote. I was mostly rapping because I wasn’t confident enough in my singing and rap was really taking off in pop culture and the mainstream at that point. I also played on the fact that I was gay and that there was not yet a mainstream gay rapper, thinking maybe I’ll become “the” gay rapper. Thankfully, that didn’t happen because relatively quickly I realized I didn’t want to be labeled “the gay rapper.”
The songs on the album cover a wide range of topics from partying at the club, self-empowerment and oppression, gay rights, suicide and existentialism.
I created and produced demos of every song (except the title track, which was an instrumental by the producer of the album, Anthony Krizan. Anthony spent a couple years playing guitar with the Spin Doctors and wrote songs with Lenny Kravitz.

Track by Track
Track 1: Life is a Ride
This was the first song I ever had professionally produced. I wrote it about a club called HEAT that was popular in Pittsburgh at the time. The song was the result of me giving into pressure/advice to write something that people can relate to. I’ve always been writing about philosophy, ethereal and spiritual concepts – so this was a departure. It ended up being very popular (no kidding) and it became the first single that helped build some local momentum. (I went by Chad D at the time, hence the name on the track art.)
